People ask me how I actually got to play at clubs on Aruba. Well I actually rolled into it. Last year I went to Aruba. A friend offered me a job and there was not a single reason I could think of to say no to the Caribbean.
After a few weeks my nerves – as a DJ - got tense because I couldn’t really spin at home or anywhere else. So one night I asked Jason at the Mambo Jambo club if I could play there. Mambo Jambo is a ‘latin/salsa-bar’, but on Thursday’s they have an electronic dance night. DJ Jason - the resident - liked the music I played so he told me I could come back anytime I want to. That’s basically how my residency at Mambo Jambo was born.
My appearances at Mambo didn’t get unnoticed. A Party organizer from Aruba named ‘Senses’, wanted me to play at one of their ‘Heaven’ parties. This was a party at a club in Oranjestad called ‘Karma Lounge’. It’s a small venue with both an indoors and an outdoors area, which is quite common on Aruba. And it was a very nice party indeed! A cool crowd made this a great night to remember.
After that I got a booking to play at one of the Full Moon parties at Beach Club Havana. Full Moon party’s are famous all over the world and also on Aruba the Full Moon parties are a big thing! So I was happy to get this booking. And the party was a success as well.
More and more people started noticing the Superposition sound and I got to play at Karma Lounge more often. Kenny Fowler got me another 2 gigs were I had to play with Kintar & Rex, 2 DJs from Argentina, who played often with one my favorite DJ’s Hernan Cattaneo. Next up was a Playboy party at Havana and another cool gig at Karma Lounge in Vegas style. And the last party of the year was the latest ‘Heaven’ party by Senses.
So 2007 was personally a hectic year, but I found what I was looking for on this One Happy Island. More and more people dig the superposition sound and I’m more than ready for more in 2008. Thank you all for the support
MJ
