A small part of my brain is always analysing everything from a evolutionary perspective. I still don't understand why, but that perspective brings peace of mind. Evolution is being judged from all angles, but there is no right and wrong on evolution itself.

When making music it's cool to see how quickly evolution is enriching my possibilities as a DJ. Remixing with tapes, using vinyl, using CD's, using memory sticks, using ableton. What more is to come? I just bought an iPad. Or iPatt as I like to call it. I got already some funny music apps going, but how cool would it be to have it fully integrated in my DJ set? Let's wait if evolution will bring me that. Or something better...

until then...

This is one of my favorite mixes in a long time. i hope you enjoy it.

010 Palladium Podium

A bit of techno, a bit of disco and a bit of superposition alchemy results in some dance floor palladium.

This is also an Ableton mix, but it was recorded live and had some adjustments done afterwards to master it for use on our website. Expirimenting and learning to use new equipment: ableton with midicontrollers. And for those who don't habla: 100% laptop mixing. This isn't easy I can tell you. The step from vinyl to CD's had advantages and disadvantages. One of the bigger disadvantages is that you kinda lose control over your music collection. I had a bag with vinyl records with sleeves and notes and it was very easy to remember all the tracks. I never thought about it - at the time - how my mind stores all that data, but today I do and I find it extremely difficult. Today I don't even have a CD with a label on it. I just have bits and pieces (way too many of them) and an extremely crappy interface. It is unbelieveable how many laptop DJ's are out there and the market has not even provided them with the right tools. Anyway, it is still fun. It feels like a completely different approach to the same thing. I'm looking forward to hearing your feedback on what's coming.

Twitter

We are also on twitter. Possibly my most personal. I created it for a very special girl and instead of me writing about this mix I asked her to comment on it. here's what she said:

"This mix builts up expectations from the beginning that are definitely fulfilled as the music continues. The beat and melody slowly grow in passion, giving your heart time to open up to it. In the end, the vocal will touch or even move you and makes you simply wanna hold... Confusing and yet very logical, the best description for this composition is that it ignites desire and satisfaction at the same time. It's complete and sincere. A solid proof of love and talent for music."

I can only hope you enjoy it as much as well. here's the tracklisting:

01 Ciappy DJ & Davide Murrin – Crobar
02 Latenta project – Hot Shots
03 16 Bit Lolita’s - Abdecktion
04 Dale Anderson & Anil Chawla – Panda Love
05 Talisman & Hudson – Leaving Planet Earth (Eelke Kleijn mix)
06 Dan Corco – New World (Robert Babicz mix)
07 Expander & Thinkfreak – Trackum
08 Reclick - Subclub
09 Fine Taste – More Grey Than Blue
10 Slam – Azure
11 Spirit Catcher – High Control
12 Jody Westernoff – Starstrings (Vocal mix)

Superposition at beachclub ZIN

Just wanted to inform you that next Saturday the 30th of August, Superposition will play at beachclub ZIN, Oostkapelle (Zeeland). Its a true arty cross over festival that combines various underground and popular styles of music in an amazing hippie setting. The team from the upfront dance magazine 365mag.com is hosting an area and threw a DJ competition with a time slot as first price. And guess what?

The winning mix is mixed by yours truly. Its called a brand new Rug and is already live in our podcast: click here for the mix. Big thumbs up for the 365mag team who gave this great response on our mix:

Superposition has been awarded a two thumbs-up qualification for bringing along a captivating blend of summer-ish, melodic and dynamic house and progressive tunes, thereby proving to fully understand what the true Solar spirit is all about. The only negative aspect we could come up with is that the mix ends while you want it to go on for hours more...

Thank you very much 365mag.com. Appreciated!

So for the second year in a row: Superposition on Solar festival. This time playing on Sunday evening on the 365mag stage. But after the sex without cumming this mix truly felt like cumming without sex. I immediately step on the gas and where pumping beats from Max Graham usually appear after 2 hours they now kick in at the fifth track. It all comes to an eruption with Roisin Murphy and from there on it’s only steering towards the finish. It was fun mixing it. I hope you’ll enjoy!

BTW, the title is homage to the Coen Brothers. And with a true beach party I mean back to the old days. The rules are simple: No entrance fee, a few good DJ’s and a lot of people having fun on a beautiful beach.

Local DJ Jeroen was the host of this event calles Arashi. And as a host he took the responsibility needed for a good party. A good DJ setup with good speakers and some light is basically all you need. The rest is done from word of mouth marketing. Everybody brought their own jug of drinks and danced and chilled on the beach.

The party started around 8PM and slowly but surely more people gathered around the DJ booth getting into the music. People on Aruba take it easy. Around 11PM it started to get really crowded and the people got more loose and into their dancing shoes. The beats got stronger and more uptempo.

And then something unique happend: a small shower on Aruba. But it didn’t prevent anybody from dancing.

This was the third and very succesfull Arashi party. I absolutely appreciate the way the organization has set this up. No money hunting, just pure beach fun! I hope to be present at the next instalment of Club Arashi! Hugo just bought himself a beach club in Oost Kapelle in Zeeland, the South-West of the Netherlands. He is currently working his ass off to get everything up and running for the opening in March.

The club needs a little bit of paint, but has high potential to be a cool party location. It’s deserted, it’s romantic and it’s got a great view on the beach and sunset.

Hugo explained to me that the traditional beach clubs like we know from Scheveningen, Bloemendaal or Ibiza are upcoming in Zeeland. He wants to be the first with a trendy beach club that can entertain various trendy crowds throughout the summer.

I believe in his vision and I’ve agreed to work together with him on the sound scape of the club. Superposition @ the beach. Hope to see you there in the summer ;)

003 The zSmile of Mamba

Do you know that feeling when you are on the dance floor and the DJ slowly pushes a balanced mix of records with small differences to a blended smoking volcano that doesn’t erupt? It's basically a big collection of free downloads and music send to us. It ranges from lounge and deep house to techno and is extremely various of character. It became a challenge to create a plane mix out of this bumpy collection, but we tried. Temporary is the result and we hope you like it.

Tracklisting

01. Well I actually rolled into it. Last year I went to Aruba. A friend offered me a job and there was not a single reason I could think of to say no to the Caribbean.

After a few weeks my nerves – as a DJ - got tense because I couldn’t really spin at home or anywhere else. So one night I asked Jason at the Mambo Jambo club if I could play there. Mambo Jambo is a ‘latin/salsa-bar’, but on Thursday’s they have an electronic dance night. DJ Jason - the resident - liked the music I played so he told me I could come back anytime I want to. That’s basically how my residency at Mambo Jambo was born.

My appearances at Mambo didn’t get unnoticed. A Party organizer from Aruba named ‘Senses’, wanted me to play at one of their ‘Heaven’ parties. This was a party at a club in Oranjestad called ‘Karma Lounge’. It’s a small venue with both an indoors and an outdoors area, which is quite common on Aruba. And it was a very nice party indeed! A cool crowd made this a great night to remember.

After that I got a booking to play at one of the Full Moon parties at Beach Club Havana. Full Moon party’s are famous all over the world and also on Aruba the Full Moon parties are a big thing! So I was happy to get this booking. And the party was a success as well.

More and more people started noticing the Superposition sound and I got to play at Karma Lounge more often. Kenny Fowler got me another 2 gigs were I had to play with Kintar & Rex, 2 DJs from Argentina, who played often with one my favorite DJ’s Hernan Cattaneo. Next up was a Playboy party at Havana and another cool gig at Karma Lounge in Vegas style. And the last party of the year was the latest ‘Heaven’ party by Senses.

So 2007 was personally a hectic year, but I found what I was looking for on this One Happy Island. More and more people dig the superposition sound and I’m more than ready for more in 2008. Thank you all for the support

MJ

You're my inspiration...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Rbt1ZFrEiZ8/R340R3MVd5I/AAAAAAAAABw/Shv9sHUM6s0/s320/pat_howells.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5151612505236535186" />
Monday, last day of 2007, Danny Howells has chosen Panama in Amsterdam to play another legendary funky dig deeper set of 6 hours. We were one of the first to arrive on scene due to restiction in public transport after 8pm. Danny was already warming up the Panama employees and quickly drew the incoming party crowd towards the DJ booth.

The first two hours (before 12PM) were a steady straight line (mostly played from good old vinyl) towards the popping of champagne bottles on the dancefloor. This was the most trancy set I ever heard from The Howeller. Repetitive percussion on hypnotic beats and quite some upfront recent tunes in the mix. Danny played at least 6 tracks of the new Superposition Podcast called 'The Zsmile of Mambo'. This mix will be released early 2008. A great night with great people and a legendary DJ.

Thanks Panama
Thanks Danny
The best finish of 2007
And an even better start of 2008

001 Tailsucker

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Rbt1ZFrEiZ8/R35D7XMVd7I/AAAAAAAAACA/hFi6Vl9Ds74/s320/tailsucker.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5151629710875522994" />
Tailsucker was our first experiment with Ableton live and it marks a grey border between www 1.0 and 2.0. Both in a way we experience the world as the way technology provides us with new ways of spreading our feelings and music.

The mix is created in the summer op 2007 and contains a lot of album versions. No tracks are twisted or remixed in Ableton. They are just mixed like we do in a live set.

We never released it in our podcast before. But we havee been giving it out to friends and the reactions were very positive.

So… we thought this should be the first Podcast mix on superposition 2.0 and we hope you all like it as much as we have been doing the past months.

Tailsucker tracklisting

01 Jeff Bennet - Man was made to suffer
02 Layo & Bushwacka! - Dr. Teeth
03 Groove Armada - Lovebox
04 Unai - Oh you and I
05 Unai - I like your style
06 Lisa Shaw - Cherry (5rw mix)
07 James Flavour - Eternity
08 Swayzak - Another way
09 Phonique - John
10 Phonique - Cafe Monte Carlo
11 Fuckpony - Body movement
12 Jeff Bennet - Moodset
13 Ben Burns & Void - Smooth to touch
14 Jori Hulkkonen – Whispers

Superposition almost going live!-

After months of fun and creative sessions our joined dream to create a cool web 2.0 existence for our mind and soul is finally unfolding.

Yesterday Pete connected the final social networks and other interesting spaces to our home base on superposition.nl. Superposition is the name of the DJ Duo of Mike and his brother Patrick. The name indicates the tight relation and affinity for music. Superposition is in quantum physics one particle that is at two different locations at once. Superposition MJ stands for Michael John, which is Mike’s full name. But it also stands for a unique style of upfront modern day funky electronic dance music.
